Joseph Franklin is a bassist and composer at the intersection of improvised, composed and experimental music. 

As a performer/improviser, he works with both the electric and upright bass in various ensembles including his own group FRANKLIN.

Rites, the debut album by FRANKLIN was released in 2018 and features Jamie Oehlers on sax, Ollie McGill on piano and Dave Beck on drums. In early 2019, he will perform and record a new body of work in New York with Marc Hannaford on piano and Satoshi Takeishi on drums. Both projects were funded by the Australia Council for the Arts, with the latter also supported by CreateNSW.

As a composer, he has written acoustic and electronic music for configurations ranging from solo to chamber orchestra. In addition to this he has written music for film, including the upcoming feature Beyond The Noise.

Ongoing projects include performing and composing for Sydney-based new music ensemble The Music Box Project, duo with vocalist/artist Tina Stefanou, and dark-folk group NOU.

He has performed across Australia, Europe and Turkey and is a former member of indie-rock band Dukes Of Windsor. In 2016 he founded music composition and production studio Onic.

He is currently based in Sydney, Australia.
