Franklin Rites New Music for Australian Jazz

Emerging Australian composer and bassist, Joseph Franklin, brings together renowned musicians to record and perform an album of original new music under the moniker, Franklin.

A collaboration with pianist Ollie McGill of The Cat Empire and featuring acclaimed saxophonist and head of Jazz Studies at WAAPA, Jamie Oehlers, as well as one of the countries most in demand drummers, Dave Beck, the album Rites will launch with performances in Sydney and Melbourne in May.

Charting a course through unique rhythms and harmonic movements, Rites is simultaneously accessible, layered and conceptually rich. It was produced with assistance from the Australia Council for the Arts and Arts Initiative Australia and is the debut album for composer, Joseph Franklin.

Rites will be available online and at independent record stores on April 2nd with album launch dates as follows:

May 15 - Bohemian Grove series, Sydney

May 17 - The Jazzlab, Melbourne (with special guest, contrabass soloist Nick Tsiavos)
